31 December 2014

Kiz: ‘I haven’t had any home-made Christmas pudding this year (a family recipe) so decided to end this year by making some. I’ll give one to my parents (for us to have on Friday evening) and then save one for a nostalgic dessert some time in 2015. Yum.’

Sunset in Stratford

Sooze: ‘The journeys to/from work this week have been a doddle and seriously scenic. Here, driving back into Stratford, the sun sets on 2014.’

Kiz: ‘Late Christmas present from Mr B’s extended family.’

Easter products in Waitrose

Sooze: ‘We’ve only just got over Christmas and the supermarkets are sneaking Easter shizzle onto their shelves! Boo hiss.’

Kiz: ‘I couldn’t help but admire these cleaning trolleys with licence plates in the car park at The Sage.’

Homemade yule log

Sooze: ‘Making a yule log for a family get-together. Nowt complicated here: just a Swiss roll with some flour swapped out for cocoa.’

Kiz: ‘Islay’s artwork with table decorations.’

Nuneaton's Ropewalk centre

Sooze: ‘Hanging out in Nuneaton before meeting my relative for afternoon ‘tea and buns’ (as my dad calls it) – there’s not a lot to do in this town. Highlight: TKMaxx. Oh dear.’

Kiz: ‘We need a bigger fridge. Or to eat more turkey.’

Mods and Rockers night at The Victoria, Coalville

Sooze: ‘Mods vs Rockers night at The Victoria, Coalville in Leicestershire. No prizes for guessing which category I fall into. A slightly unnerving night (scary punters, disorganised service) but the Thin Lizzy tribute band were fantastic – talented guitarists making it look easy, and a superb soundalike singer.’

Kiz: ‘A money plant from my mum. If they work, that would be great. Apparently they’re ‘indestructable’. We’ll see.’

Boxing Day staff dinner at The Bell

Sooze: ‘Boxing Day staff party at The Bell. Theme: ‘Balti & ballgowns’. A questionable balti from the Stow takeaway (more gravy than balti) and a questionable ballgown from Meryl. (A black mesh playsuit. Ahh, kids today eh…)’

Kiz: ‘It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… We were offering turkey sandwiches to our guests at one point when our ancient (and rubbish!) oven decided to overheat(!) and shut down mid-lunch-prep!’

Mincemeat star slices

Sooze: ‘I don’t like mince pies – too much pastry, not enough fruit – so here’s my freestyle version: mincemeat, apple & cranberry shortcake slices. Topped with marzipan stars. Nom!’
